Letter to Friend

Dear Friend,

There are many phenomena’s that happen at school here at UCF, but there is one that I find particularly interesting. This phenomenon is the use of skateboards and long boards around campus and how the school is trying to ban the use of them. I have noticed that many students use skateboards and long boards as their main transportation device to get around this large campus. This can be a hazard to some people because some users are not very good at using the skateboards and long boards so they sometimes run into other students on the way to class or back home. This is dangerous because some people can get seriously injured from these types of accidents and the school does not want that to happen on campus, so therefore they are trying to ban the skateboards and long boards. Students have very different views on this issue. I have found out that some think this is a major issue and some think it is a minor issue. For me it is a minor issue because I do not ride a skateboard or long board and I have not been hit by one...yet. I also found out that some people think that skateboards are safer than the long boards because on skateboards people do not have to weave as much as they do on long boards to move. Many people also think that people who ride skateboards and long boards get a reputation as punks but not according to the people who do ride them. Also, students that ride the skateboards and long boards do not want the school to ban them because it is their main source of transportation while students who do not ride them are indifferent. Some students think that the skateboards and long boards are annoying and some students just do not care about this issue. I think that if the school does ban the skateboards and long boards there will be a lot more students walking to class instead of riding their skateboard or long board. This may make more students late because it is a lot slower walking than riding a skateboard or a long board to class and therefore may drop their grades in their classes. In my opinion I do not think the school should ban the use of skateboards and long boards because it is easier to get around and I don not think they pose as a great danger to people. The people will just have to be more careful and alert to other people using the skateboards and long boards. I also do not agree with the view that people who ride skateboards and long boards are punks. I think they are normal people like everyone else but they just choose to have another form of transportation that is easier for them. That is my view on this particular interesting phenomenon that happens at the University of Central Florida.
